Western Australia will finally reopen its borders to the rest of Australia and the world at 12.01 am on Saturday, February 5. Both international and domestic travellers will be able to enter the state.

The long-awaited announcement by Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan came as the state’s vaccination rate for those aged 12 and over reached 80 per cent.

The state government hopes 90 per cent of the state’s population aged 12 and over will be vaccinated by then.

«I am confident that this is the right time and the right way to take this important step.” Premier Mark McGowan

This measure taken by the Western Australian government is a breath of fresh air for many in and out of the state. A lot of people have families abroad that they have been unable to see for nearly two years, others have postponed studies or career opportunities, and some are just waiting to travel around this magnificent state. It is certain that this date will be a cause of relief and celebration.

“This is a date that many people in the community have been waiting for for a long time.” Premier Mark McGowan

Interstate and overseas arrivals

As of February 5, interstate and overseas travellers will be able to enter Western Australia if they are double-vaccinated, unless medically exempt or ineligible.

Interstate travellers will need to provide proof of vaccination and return a negative PCR test within 72 hours of travel and undertake another test on arrival.

International travellers will not need to quarantine if they have been vaccinated, but will need to test negative for the virus before departure and on arrival.

International arrivals would need to complete a 14 days quarantine if they were considered to be in a “high risk” category, that is unvaccinated.

There will be a cap on unvaccinated arrivals into the state.

Don’t waste any more time and begin planning your arrival to this land of big opportunities, Western Australia is right around the corner.
