What can you do in your free time in Darwin?
Litchfield National Park, Mary River National Park and the Tiwi Islands are just a short drive from the city center and feature incredibly diverse landscapes combined with ancient Aboriginal culture. All of them for you to enjoy your free time.
Litchfield National Park
Just a 60-minute drive south of Darwin, Litchfield National Park is possibly the best kept secret in the Northern Territory. The park is full of impressive waterfalls and waterholes that are surrounded by forests that offer a cool respite on hot summer days. A tour of Litchfield is full of contrasts and some of the largest termite mounds in the Top End. Cabin, camping, and trailer sites are just a short drive from the park gates.
Mary River National Park
You can take a cruise or join a fishing boat and experience the lush wetlands of the Mary River, a thriving microcosm of wildlife, birds and fish. Located about an hour east of Darwin, it’s a good place to stop on your way to Kakadu National Park or for a day trip from the city.
Tiwi Islands
The Tiwi Islands are made up of two main islands: Bathurst and Melville, which are located 80 kilometers north of Darwin. Most of the residents are of Aboriginal descent and you will meet some of them on wildlife and cultural tours.
