Western Australia will finally reopen its borders to the rest of Australia and the world at 12.01am on Saturday 5th February. Both domestic and international travelers will be able to enter the state.

Premier Mark McGowan ‘s long-awaited announcement came as the state’s vaccination rate for those aged 12 and over hit 80 per cent.

The state government expects that 90 percent of the state’s population age 12 and older will be vaccinated by then.

This move by the Western Australian government is a breath of fresh air for many in and out of the state. Many people have families abroad that they haven’t been able to see for nearly two years, others have put off studies or career opportunities, and some are just waiting to travel around this magnificent state. It is a fact that this date will be cause for relief and celebration .

Interstate and foreign arrivals

From February 5 , interstate and foreign travelers will be able to enter Western Australia if they are fully vaccinated, unless they are medically exempt or ineligible.

Interstate travelers will be required to provide proof of vaccination and a negative PCR certificate within 72 hours prior to travel and another upon arrival.

International travelers will not need to quarantine if they have been vaccinated, but will need to test negative for the virus before departure and upon arrival.

International arrivals would have to complete a 14-day quarantine if they are deemed to be in a “high risk” category, meaning unvaccinated.

There will be a cap on unvaccinated arrivals in the state.
