Australia is an excellent destination for those aspiring to become health professionals, with the aim of studying and developing their careers in a diverse environment with great opportunities. Medicine, Nursing, Surgery are some of the most demanded professions in Australia.
- Possibility of adding real experience during studies:
The Australian Education System has a special distinction for being ‘practical-oriented’. This generates an interesting pedagogical experience, allowing students and future professionals to learn with a more practical approach by adding real experience. For this to happen, all careers and universities must have a first class infrastructure for professional practices with supplies, real work spaces, elements such as medical equipment, first class laboratories, access to professionals in the professional field in question, and access to places that are a reference in the health industry. These are the ingredients that make for such real, on-the-ground experience for all careers in the Health sector at Universities in Australia and ensure that the investment you make in your studies and career has a successful outcome.
- Graduate visa options:
One of the most attractive benefits of studying in the Health sector in Australia is the conditions that allow eligible students and graduates to live, learn and develop careers after their studies through the Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485), which is a is a visa that allows international students to work full time if they have completed at least two years of study in Australia and meet the Australian Study Requirement. Depending on the type of visa, it can last between 18 months and 4 years. Benefits of this visa include the ability to work without time restrictions, gain professional experience in Australia and include members of your family unit, such as a partner. This visa is commonly referred to as “Post-Study Visa”, but this gives rise to some confusion as the Post-Study visa is one of the two types of this 485 visa. In the following link you can find in the official website of the Department of Home Affairs of Australia all the relevant information for this visa.

Model: planning for a 7-year experience in Australia.
The following is an example of a model of study and work experience in the health sector, in order to analyze a financial planning for 5 to 7 years in Australia. As an example we will use the Master of Public Health (Advanced) at Torrens University Australia, one of ACE Australia’s Partner Universities.
To begin his experience, the student will complete 2 years of the Master of Public Health (Advanced) at Torrens University Australia, Adelaide campus. This type of Qualification currently (2023) has a total Tuition Fee of AUD 46,816, not to mention the possibility for international students to apply for different types of scholarships (between 10% and 40%) depending on the academic area, nationality, academic merit, among other criteria. When undertaking a Master’s Degree study experience, the Department of Home Affairs establishes under the Condition 8104 that all international students may work up to 48 hours per fortnight (as of July 1, 2023). However, the Department of Home Affairs on January 19 stated that until June 2023, international students can work without any time limitation, and without the need for them to begin their studies.
After the two years of studies at Torrens University Australia, Adelaide campus, the student has the possibility to apply for the Temporary Graduate Post-Study Work Stream Visa. The duration of this new Visa will be 2 years, since the student has already completed a Master Degree, and an additional year will be added for having studied in Adelaide, a Category 2 Regional Area. Now, with the new measure announced by the Australian Government as of July 1, 2023, within the List of occupations and qualifications eligible for post-study work rights, a large number of qualifications in the Health sector are included in this list. Among them, the Master of Public Health Advanced. Giving the student the possibility of adding 2 more years to their experience.
That is, with an investment of approximately AUD 50,000 during the first two years of the Master Degree, you can undertake an experience of approximately 7 years in Australia, having the possibility of working full-time developing in your professional field. In addition, the fact of having studied a Master in a Regional Area such as Adelaide, gives you the possibility of adding points for the path to Permanent Residence.
